Local Rates or Community Charges

Rates are payable in Cyprus as a Resident - but that is where the similarity ends - when compared to U.K "Community/ Rate" charges.

No 1,000 or 2,000 pound + per annum Bills as in the U.K at present

Cyprus Local "Community" Charges rarely exceed Cyp 80 PER ANNUM

Payable "in arrears" by 31st Dec of each year to your Local Town Hall / Authority.

YES - Cyp 80 per annum and this will include Refuse Collection [anything that can be 'lifted' usually 2 x a week in the Winter and 3 x a week in the Summer

There is no  current 'separating' requirement or standard 'wheelie bin' or 'refusal to take some items' - what you put it out -  is taken away usually from 7pm or 8 pm or later in the evening

The Refuse collection charge represents around Cyp 35 per annum, the other "Community /Local Rate" charges [including street lighting] are set according to the size of your Apartment or House and could be  as low as just an additional Cyp 30 p.a.

Land Property Tax

There is an Annual Land Property Tax payable as a Resident on the Property you own to your local Authority.

This is not however very expensive usually amounting to Cyp 25 to Cyp 40 per annum according to the Property size and location.
